Why a folding mobility scooter fits where others don't

Most mobility scooters are beaten by the boot aperture, not the boot volume. A standard four-wheel scooter is around 120 cm long and cannot be shortened, so it never clears the lip of a hatchback. A small folding mobility scooter solves both problems: it collapses lengthways and it separates, so each piece goes in on its own.

  • Folds to 87 × 50 × 41 cm

Shorter than a set of golf clubs and flat enough to slide under a parcel shelf in most hatchbacks.

  • Splits into 19 kg + 12 kg

No single heavy lift. This is what makes convertibles, coupes and city cars possible.

  • Rolls like a suitcase when folded

You wheel it to the boot rather than carrying it across the car park.

  • Airline and cruise friendly

The same folded footprint that clears a small boot also clears most airline hold rules.

Frequently asked

Which mobility scooters will fit in my car boot?

Folding mobility scooters that separate into two parts are the only ones that reliably fit small car boots. The ATTO folds to 87 × 50 × 41 cm and splits into a 19 kg front section and a 12 kg rear section, so it fits city cars, hatchbacks, convertibles, saloons, estates and SUVs — often without folding the rear seats down.

What is the best mobility scooter for a small boot?

For a small boot, look for a folded footprint under about 90 × 55 × 45 cm and a design that separates so you never lift more than about 20 kg. The ATTO fits boots from roughly 185 litres upwards when kept whole, and smaller boots again when separated into two pieces.

Will a mobility scooter fit in a convertible?

Yes. Convertibles such as the Mazda MX-5, Fiat 500C, Jaguar F-Type and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet all take the ATTO when it is separated into its two sections and loaded one piece at a time, roof up.

Do I need to fold the back seats down?

Usually not. Most hatchbacks, estates and SUVs swallow the folded ATTO whole. Very small city cars and some sports cars need either the seats split or the scooter separated into two parts.

How heavy is the scooter to lift into a boot?

The ATTO weighs about 30 kg complete. Separated, you lift 19 kg then 12 kg, which is why it works for people loading a scooter on their own.
